Edith Thomas is the founder of her firm located in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Her civil litigation practice is focused primarily on employment law disputes through advising and representing clients throughout Texas in litigation. There are numerous laws protecting employees in Texas, and Ms. Thomas can help you assess your rights under federal and state laws. Ms. Thomas has successfully represented clients with claims arising under the Texas Commission on Human Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Equal Pay Act, and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. These laws protect employees from discrimination based on disability, age, gender, race, religion, national origin, and from retaliation for complaints of discrimination. Ms. Thomas also assists victims of wage theft under the Fair Labor Standards Act. In addition, she provides advice and counsel on other aspects of the employer-employee relationship, including matters arising under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, the National Labor Relations Act, Sarbanes-Oxley whistle-blower protections(“SOX”), and the Dodd-Frank Act.

Ms. Thomas has been recognized for her advocacy skills and knowledge of employment law. Ms. Thomas has been selected as “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers for the years 2013-2015. Super Lawyers is a Thompson Reuters service and is published in Texas Monthly. In addition, Ms. Thomas is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. In order to become Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law, an attorney must meet rigorous requirements, including taking a specialized exam, have substantial experience in the specialty area, submit references, and complete specific continuing legal education requirements.  By meeting these requirements, an attorney can then represent herself as a specialist in a select area of law. Board Certification is a mark of excellence and a distinguishing accomplishment, and out of approximately 70,000 practicing attorneys in Texas, only 7,000 are board certified.

Before earning her Juris Doctor from Tulane University Law School, Ms. Thomas received her undergraduate education at the University of Texas at Austin. Upon her graduation from law school, she gained valuable experience working for a nationally recognized litigation boutique law firm in Washington, D.C. After her return to Texas, Ms. Thomas was associated with a prominent law firm representing individuals in employment law matters before starting her current practice.

Ms. Thomas is licensed to practice law in Texas, Maryland and Washington, D.C. She is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Western, and Eastern Districts of Texas.
